forth is broke but we have a lot to say – so we have launched a fighting fund.
Every penny donated to forth helps to keep the magazine alive and helps to develop it into a bigger and better web site. We’ve already made lots of progress and visitor traffic increases week on week but we really would like to improve things with: more consistent coverage, more original reporting, more contributors, public debates and a lot more.
The original plan for forth was that it was to run for three months and then we would take stock of how things were progressing. This would mean that by the end of December a decision could be made on whether or not forth had a future. I am delighted to write that we plan on sticking around. The reaction to forth has been incredible. E-mails of support and praise arrive literally every week.
In addition, the original plan called for forth to publish twice weekly. That didn’t quite work out – in fact, since soft-launching on October 8, forth has added new stories every day, seven days a week. As I write this, forth is just 56 days old and yet it has published just under 300 articles from over 20 writers including journalists, professors, doctors, artists and all manner of other people. Subjects covered include Irish politics, geopolitics, art, architecture, the environment, history, economics, psychiatry, religion, atheism, sport, technology, marriage and lots more besides.
