HAS IT really come to this? forth editorialising on behalf of Gordon Brown’s sad, incumbent Labour government?
Yep, but here’s why.
Election time is traditionally a time when the nation comes together to be bored rigid by politicians and their pathetic, small-minded visions of how to drag the world backwards to some elusive point when things were supposedly great.
forth is, as you of course know, based in Ireland, a republic (also known as a country for grown-ups) so we have no immediate interest in the election other than insofar as it has an effect on the North of Ireland (and as something to have a good old laugh at).
forth has no political affiliations. Its editor has only ever voted once, in the 1996 Northern Ireland Forum election - my vote went to the dull-as-dishwater Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP).
Let’s get one thing straight: I have no enthusiasm for Gordon Brown and his party, none at all. However, the thought of a Tory government is sickening, especially after Conservative candidate Zac Goldsmith’s bought-and-paid-for attack dogs SpinWatch/SpinProfiles decided to have a go at forth.
It’s all fun and games until someone finds out that you’re bankrolled by a Tory millionaire heir whose late relatives made a fortune by asset stripping and putting people out of work. Adam Curtis’s BBC documentary The Mayfair Set is such interesting viewing.
So, vote for whomever the hell you want. Vote Labour. Vote Liberal Democrat. Vote Green. Just don’t vote for Tory tax exiles.
STOP THIS BLUE AND GREEN MENACE etc…
