Invest in journalism. Instead of pissing your money away on Ireland’s creaky economy of Ponzi schemes, piss it away on Ireland’s mouthiest critical magazine. forth needs to raise €2,000 by January first 2010 – we’re counting on you.
Why donate?
Simply because Ireland needs more critical journalism that isn’t just rehashing the same old tired tropes of the past. forth has an open agenda: we want to see an end to the doom and gloom that has consumed Irish social discourse. That doesn’t mean, however, that we uncritically support the guff issued by government and business press officers – far from it. In fact, forth is a unique, albeit small, voice in Irish journalism and lobs its brickbats across the political spectrum.
Additionally, forth aspires to original reporting but we can’t do that without a budget. Editor Jason Walsh manages forth in his spare time – of which there isn’t much when you’re attempting to squeeze a living out of writing for newspapers – and solicits unpaid contributions from a wide range of interesting voices rarely heard in Ireland. Not even a month old (in fact, not even officially launched yet), forth is already home to thought-provoking articles from journalists, academics, artists and just plain interesting people who don’t have ‘trendy’ jobs. Being able to pay our contributors would ensure a more reliable supply of work.
